Billboard-charting trio Revocation — Dave Davidson (vocals/guitar), Ash Pearson (drums) and Brett Bamberger (bass) — have been meticulously exploring the allegorical and literal aspects of Hell for four years while delving deeper into the darker, devilish side of death metal. In short, where the previous album, The Outer Ones (2018), threw Revocation into the horrid maw of the cosmos, Netherheaven deftly pierces through the nine rings of Hell to confront Lucifer and his multiple faces head-on. “We definitely have more of a death metal mentality than on previous albums in our catalogue,” affirms Davidson. “We’re focused on how to write the best Death Metal-centric album possible while still pushing our limits. The new songs on ‘Netherheaven’ are evil and dark but also have a progressive element to keep things interesting. It has our stamp on it, no question.”

Netherheaven was written during downtime after The Outer Ones had completed their album cycle. The album’s nine tracks were written entirely by Davidson, who divided his time between squatting before the altars of Luc Lemay (Gorguts), Chuck Schuldiner (Death), Marty Friedman (Megadeth), and acclaimed jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery and Kurt Rosenwinkel. In between writing killer riffs and downright wild solos, the seven-string also practiced guitar (technique), studied (theory) and taught guitar. The revocation has really shifted gears as Davidson turned to audio tech (powered by Apple’s Logic Pro) to leverage pandemic-era lockdowns effectively. It made perfect sense for him to lead the engineering and producer chair at his newly built HeatWave studios for Netherheaven. Revocation then hired Swedish studio ace Jens Bogren (Opeth, Kreator) to mix and master at Fascination Street Studios.

“We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this album,” says Davidson. “We want people to be inspired. It’s brutal. We brought our A-Game to Netherheaven.”

Following the album release, Revocation will embark on a North American headlining tour with Krisiun, Alluvial and Inoculation as support. “We can’t wait to play some new songs on our first headlining tour since the pandemic,” enthuses Davidson. “We’ll join forces with Brazilian berserkers Krisiun, progressive death metal wizards Alluvial and newcomers Inoculation, who combine an OSDM aesthetic with a more modern, technical approach. Don’t miss the killer lineup, come out and circle for Satan! “
