Some Beaver County bands will be performing near the big pickle at next weekend’s Picklesburgh.
Mean Blue Planets will entertain with their soul funk sound at noon on July 16 at the North Shore end of the Rachel Carson (Ninth Street) Bridge in Pittsburgh.
At noon on July 17, Aliquippa’s own Dan Bubien and The Delta Struts bring their soulful blues rock to the festival’s EZ Pass Stage at the end of the 10th Street Bypass downtown
Picklesburgh, the Picklesburgh celebration hailed by USA Today as the nation’s best food festival, expanded to multiple stages this year, allowing live music fans to enjoy some of the area’s most sought-after musicians like nationally touring guitar singer Elias Khouri (1:30 p.m 15th of July); Miss Freddye’s Blues Band (6pm, July 15); Neo-soul wizards Sierra Sellers (3pm, July 16) and face-melting rockers Nash.V.III (7:30pm, July 16).

From the Polkamaniacs (July 16) to pop-country star Justin Fabus (2:30 p.m. July 17), there’s something for everyone to hear while sipping on cucumber-flavored cocktails, snacking on cucumber-flavored munchies and taking in the photo op makes giant Heinz pickle picked up from the bridge.
“Picklesburgh is just always a good time,” said guitar ace Bubien. “It’s a fun, light-hearted atmosphere. That’s why we make sure the setlist stays fun, energetic and upbeat. The sound is always great so the music always feels right. The crowd is great anytime. So it’s a great opportunity to hear good local music and a great opportunity as a musician to get your music out there in front of a lot of people and hopefully get a few more followers into your music.”

Podcast under palm trees
Poor Man’s Podcast recorded his July 3 show live from Kelly’s Riverside Saloon in Bridgewater.
I would like to believe that I helped choose this location as a few weeks prior I was a guest on the comedy/entertainment/food podcast from Bellevue where we spent most of our time chatting about Bridgewater’s nightlife speak. Some of the Poor Man’s Podcast members have experience working in the service industry in Bridgewater.
Catch up on how the live show performed at Kelly’s Under the Palms on the Poor Man Podcast YouTube page.
Here’s the show synopsis: “Chris, Chey and Cheech are joined by show friend Doug Carpenter and all around hilarious guy Thomas Farley. They start the show with stories about Kelly and some of her drunken adventures. Chris rants about Harley Davidson minutes before a biker gang walks in. They then play a game in which they have to discuss topics suggested by the audience. In the second half we play a game with viewers Dan and Scott for a special prize. Be sure to download the audio podcast for a bonus interview with (Aliquippa) comedian Joey Purse.”
show exchange
Starting July 4th, WPXI-TV has swapped the timeslots of the legendary game shows Jeopardy! and “Wheel of Fortune”.
With the change, “Wheel of Fortune” will air weekdays at 7 p.m. and “Jeopardy!” airs weekdays at 7:30 p.m. The time change will more closely align the airing of these programs with the way they are aired in the rest of the country, according to a press release from WPXI (Channel 11).
Whenever I walk through Beaver on winter weekday evenings, it is amazing and amusing to see how many households watch these programs.
Even compared to prime-time programs, “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” would finish in the top 10 in the Pittsburgh-area with adults 25-54, says WPXI.
Y-108’s new morning person
Country radio veteran Cadillac Jack joins the Y-108 FM morning show “Y’d Awake” weekdays starting July 11 along with co-hosts Kristen and Maria.
“Cadillac Jack brings an energy and commitment that country fans will love in Pittsburgh,” said Michael Spacciapolli, senior vice president at Audacy Pittsburgh, the country broadcaster’s parent company.
A multiple nominee for Academy of Country Music’s On-Air Personality of the Year and CMA’s Broadcast Personality of the Year, Cadillac Jack most recently worked as a morning personality and associate program director for WHEL-FM in Ft. Myers, Fla. Other career stations include country stations in Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Tampa and Detroit.
Red Carpet at Sewickley
The Tull Family Theater hosts the national red carpet premiere of “Movers Ultimate” on July 16 at 7:30 p.m.
A 1990s-inspired independent comedy, Movers Ultimate stars South Hills native Sé Marie, who persuaded her castmates and crew buddies to host the world premiere in Sewickley instead of Los Angeles.

The actress, who starred in the award-winning indie festival film Artificial Experience and has a major role in Unsinkable, a Pittsburgh film about the aftermath of Titanic, was first introduced to The Tull when her fiancé met Pittsburgh rapper Harvey “Frzy” Daniels joined the board.
“I’m familiar with the theater and love the inclusivity of their programs for youth, special needs families and local artists,” Marie said in a press release.
In Movers Ultimate, Marie plays the daughter of a wealthy family moving to a new home. The moving truck staff rush through work to attend their class reunion. Marie describes it as “a hilariously niche film that pays homage to movers and everything they go through, with life lessons along the way.”
“We are honored to welcome both local and West Coast talent to this premiere,” said Carolina Pais-Barreto Thor, CEO of Tull. “Since the pandemic, the theater has strengthened its partnerships with artists and made its state-of-the-art facilities available to showcase their work.”
